my left glove sprang a leak during an attempt to dye some yarn. made me think of lady macbeth, freakish fingers and all.

2004

those are the first and only pair of mittens i've ever made. i used a lovely green yarn from handpaintedyarn and made up the pattern as i knit along. you can see that the one to the left is slightly larger than the right. over all, they don't fit too badly. in fact, i got pretty good use out of them.

(i also made the earflap hat)

2008

i followed a pattern and one still turns out bigger than the other. pairs are not my thing. anyway, it's bev gelaskas' felted clogs pattern, which is purely text. and very poorly formatted at that. my eyes were permanently crossed for days.

2009

that's a hat i'm trying to make for chris. by trying i mean failing. the yarn, manos del uruguay, looked lovely at the store. i fell out of love with the colors as soon as i got home. i wanted the colorblock effect but it's not looking very good. i can't imagine that striping the two would look any better.

hey, cupcake! friday 01.16.2009

sad excuse for frosting

i've been in cahoots with amy on making cupcakes. we've been inspired by the pictures in radford's one skein book. neither of us followed the pattern though. amy crocheted hers and i knit mine.

i am tempted to make another just to improve on the pattern. meanwhile, i'll just have to live vicariously through amy; she's well on her way for a dozen.

handmade in indy, part 2 thursday 01.22.2009

first, let's start with this prized picture:

stuff on my brother in law

that's doug being very patient with me at the village yarn shop in zionsville. i decided to torture doug because my usual victim made himself scarce as soon as he heard that we were going to a yarn store.

amy's loot getting skeined

amy and i were very productive with our needlework during our stay in indy. collectively, we worked on a scarf, two hats, a mitten, and even a sock. except i failed to take one single picture of us crafting.

that's an heirloom afghan that my mother in law inherited from her aunt. it's crocheted and slightly felted. i love the colors as well as the pattern. i hope to knock it off one day.

and so concludes my handmade adventure in indy.
