waiting for noses

there are two more except i ran out of polyester fill. i am having a lot of fun making these. i always thought that the first thing i'd make with a new sewing machine would be a tote. or a zippered pouch. i was wrong.

the color pattern is inspired by the book knitting in the nordic tradition which i borrowed from the library. the yoke decreasing is based very loosely on zimmermann's formula.

i'm making this sweater for my sister. she prefers wide necklines, the sort that i have terrible luck knitting. this one looks all right so far. i hope it will fit properly.

cnsf (craft night san francisco)

two weeks ago i attended my very first san francisco craft night ever. amanda hosted it. she served a terrific dinner before hand. anyway, cnsf is four strong but so far, due to various circumstances, we've only managed to meet three at a time.

i've yet to meet kelly, she hosted the first craft night which i couldn't attend. i wonder if she's as great a cook as amanda.

thrift store find

straight from the 70s

i got the afghan you see last saturday from the haley street thrift store. i had seen it two weeks before, the previous time i was in sb. i loved the colors and the knitting but, because it's acrylic, i decided not to get it.

it was still on the racks this past weekend. the shop was having a 50% off sale so i just went ahead and splurged $4 for it. what the heck, the color scheme alone is worth $3.50.

it's about 5x5 and there were snags all over it. it shrank a bit after washing and drying. i was expecting it to become brittle from the heat but, much to my surprise, it became really soft.

the snags are now fixed and the afghan looks and works great. i have to admit though: i'm ashamed to own an acrylic piece of knitting.
